The Nigeria Football Federation elections was held on Thursday 20th September 2018 and Amaju Melvin Pinnick returns as the President of the federation. This is a landslide feat as non of the past Glass House chiefs has ever survived a reelection bids.
Congratulations Pinnick!
Your National team is a as good as your league or at least the success of your league should be reflected in your National team.
To say our league has become a shadow of itself is an understatement. The NPFL was abruptly brought to a premature end last season owing to many factors. The League Management Company is under the auspices of Pinnick's 2nd vice President Mallam Shehu Dikko hence cogent effort must be put in place to revive the lost glory of our league and avoid the repeat of the debacle that engulfed the procession of the league during last season. No serious investor will invest their hard earned capitals in an uncertain market terrain. Without sponsors and broadcasting, the league can't grow.
Much as it was widely attributed to Pinnick the sponsorship deal NFF was able to secure for Super Eagles it seems a smart deal as qualifying for world cup attracts more incentives and other rewards than any other competitions. Remember the same Super Eagles have failed to qualified for two consecutives African cup of Nations. This is a pointer to the fact that for Pinnick to enjoy continual support his administration must qualify for next year's AFCON, and that is not negotiable.
Our women National teams and league is in comatose to say the least. Over concentration on Super Eagles by successive football administration has denigrated our female football. Welfare, camp allowance, match bonuses etc are few notable factors affecting the women football in the country. Pinnick must map out a robust plan to safe the women football from going extinction.
The introduction of different cadet football competitions during Amaju's 1st reign has been a massive plus for the U17 team as few of the U15 players has graduated to U17. Pinnick must complement on this as the best way to set the tone and lay a good foundation for our football is through grassroots football.
The stake is high and the task is more enormous but to whom much is given; much is expected..
I wish Pinnick and his entire board members the sincerity of purpose and willingness to move Nigeria football to the next level.
Congratulations Pinnick!
However, the 1st term was marred by consistent court cases and infraction by aggrieved parties that contested the election which Pinnick emerged from to become NFF President. This tussles apparently rendered the 1st tenure tumultuous and the result was imminent FIFA ban until the intervention of the Federal government.
Pinnick, as a matter of necessity, must bring all football stakeholders together and find lasting solutions to the reoccurring crises that has been hampering smooth running of the round leather game in Nigeria. This may seem a tall order as the crises predates Pinnick's emergence as NFF boss but it will go down in history as one of the greatest achievements of the present NFF board if they're able to achieve it.Your National team is a as good as your league or at least the success of your league should be reflected in your National team.
